ABOUT THE FOUNDER'S STORY

Shemika Jackson encompasses more than what meets the eye. Who some see and know, as the Founder of Kafune Hair Care, is much more than what meets the eye. And it’s no secret – this company exists because of a seed.

When we think of seeds being planted, they are small and seemingly insignificant. However, what they produce is powerful and necessary and unforgettable. The first seed that was planted in Shemika was through her mother. As a cosmetologist, this hard working mom would bring home mannequins that Shemika would eventually play with. It was during this time that the seed was planted and the love for hair began.

One day in school, Shemika was asked what she wanted to be when she grew up. Her immediate response was that she wanted to do hair; she was mocked and told there was no money there. At that moment, another seed was planted.

She continued on and pursued a higher education, believing she needed to go into an occupation where her finances were secure. Therefore, she received a B.S. in Business and became a Tax Accountant. But there was much more to her than a 30-year plan and eventual retirement. The seed planted in her as a little girl never died, even when its value was deduced by another’s words.

In 1998, Shemika noticed a thinning spot in her head and it continued to grow over time.

In 2003, she noticed it was not stopping and slight devastation entered her mind at the thought of losing her crown. One year later, she was officially diagnosed with Alopecia. One day she was told that it would never get better – and she decided to do something. Living with the emotional and mental strain of hair loss was not something she felt she needed to settle for. Yes, it was her reality; however, Shemika knew that she could do something for herself that would eventually help others.

This is where the seed planted as a child began to blossom. While Shemika was dealing with her own journey and researching for other options, a passion was being reignited within. Not only was she becoming an advocate for women, who battle with alopecia, but she was living the life herself; this enabled her to understand every facet of the mind and emotions. And because of that process, that seed, that journey, she walked into purpose.

What’s known today as Kafune is actually a seed coming into proper time and propelling her into purpose. This company was allowed her to provide hair care products that enable women to recreate the crown that was once stripped from them. Because of Shemika Jackson, hundreds of clients have been able to feel beautiful again. Their confidence has been restored. Their crown has been placed back in proper position.

And it all started with a seed and a testimony.
